Technical Information

Software Consumers will use the Immunization History Retrieval Web Service, or "IZ Hist" Service, whenever they need to know the full and complete immunization history of a patient.  The history includes all administered vaccines (invalid doses and non-reportable vaccines).

This query would normally be used prior to using the Vaccine Forecast Decision Support Service, since they both require the full immunization history of the patient as input.

IZ History

IZ Hist Service comes in two flavors:

  • HL7 Version 2.3.1, which supports the CDC HL7 Version 2.3.1 implementation guide for immunization registries.  This service provides only the HL& VXQ-VXR message profiles provided in the CDC immunization guide.
  • IHE QED, which supports the HL7 Version 3 CareRecord Query (Version 3 Messaging).*
  • IHE Immunization Content** can be fetched directly from an XDS registry/repository via a Provide and Register operation.

Immunization History Update Web Service

Consumers will use the Immunization History Update Web Service, or "IZ Update" Service, whenever they need to submit neew or updated immunization history of a patient.

This update would normally be done whenever vaccines are administered, or immunization history has been updated.
